About the Program
The Rock Valley College Mass Communication program provides those who are interested in a career in the media industry with a unique opportunity to jump-start their education. With state-of-the-art facilities and instructors who are working media professionals, our students learn in a hands-on environment that is as “real world” as it gets.

Potential Careers & Wages
Many of our alumni are already enjoying a great career in journalism, television, film, and radio. Some join the workforce right after their time at RVC, others do so after continuing their studies at top schools such as the University of Southern California, Loyola Marymount University, the University of Missouri, DePaul University, Columbia College Chicago, Southern Illinois University, Illinois State University, Northern Illinois University, and more.
Program Pathways
Students should meet with an Academic Advisor to develop a clear pathway leading to a seamless transfer experience or transition to the workforce. For additional possibilities that may require an advanced degree or certification, make an appointment with an Academic Advisor.

Graduates of our 32-credit Media Production Specialist Certificate Program (3950) are prepared to produce a wide range of media projects including: multi-format television programs, commercials, public service announcements, documentaries, short narrative films, podcasts, and audio programs.
Students are encouraged to meet with the Academic Chair to ensure a seamless pathway through the Mass Communication program and certificates.
Graduates of our 32-credit Multimedia Journalist Certificate Program are prepared to write and produce a wide range of media projects including: news articles, public service announcements, documentaries, TV news reports, public relations campaigns, and podcasts.
Students are encouraged to meet with the Academic Chair to ensure a seamless pathway through the Mass Communication program and certificates.
The Film and TV Workforce Training Program is designed to provide participants with
the training and knowledge needed to land entry-level positions. The IFO/RVC Film
and TV Workforce Training Program is made possible through funding from the Illinois
Film Office through the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.
