RVC Celebrates the Week of the Young Child, April 5 - 11
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Early Childhood Education Program at Rock Valley College invite the community to celebrate the Week of the Young Child from April 5-11.

The Week of the Young Child is April 5 - 11, 2025
This annual event highlights the importance of early childhood education and the needs of young children and their families.
The Week of the Young Child is an initiative sponsored by NAEYC, the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 60,000 members and a network of 51 affiliates. The celebration aims to focus public attention on the essential services that support young children and their families.
Each day of the week features ideas for engaging activities designed to promote learning and development:
Music Monday
When children sing, dance, and listen to music, they develop their language and early
literacy skills while being active and encouraging movement.
Tasty Tuesday
This fun, food-themed day is about more than just cheese and crackers. Cooking together
connects math with literacy skills, science, and more.
Work Together Wednesday
When children build together they explore math and science concepts and develop their
social and early literacy skills. Children can use any building material-from a fort
of branches on the yard to a hideaway made from couch pillows at home.
Artsy Thursday
Think, problem solve, create! Children develop creativity, social skills and fine
motor skills with open-ended art projects where they can make choices, use their imaginations,
and create with their hands.
Family Friday
Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners.
NAEYC applauds family members’ role as young children’s first and most important teachers.
The celebration concludes with the NAEYC Week of the Young Child Fun Fair on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Harlem High School, 1 Huskie Circle, Machesney Park, IL. The Early Childhood Education program will have a booth at the event.
The Early Childhood Education program at RVC equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in early childhood education settings, complemented by field experiences in diverse environments.
